The original de-icing products designed by W.B. Walton Enterprises includes a behind the antenna plenum (enclosure) which is heated with hot air. These systems for antennas ranging in size from 5.0-meter to 32-meters in diameter. While there have been some product refinements over the years, to make these systems more efficient, and easier to install, the same basic concept is still in use today.
More recently, a line of de-icing products called the Snow Shield was designed, and are being manufactured for antennas ranging is size from 0.6 meters to 5.0-meters in diameter. The Snow Shield consists of PTFE coated GOR-TEX® material, which has a very low coefficient of friction, stretched over the satellite antenna. The Snow Shield can be used as a passive system, or heat can be added for a higher level of protection.
